About

My name is Ian Talbot, I am 55 years of age, married and living in Walthamstow, North East London.

Once, long ago in another life, photography was a profession. Now I do it because I enjoy it. I’m happier now but that doesn’t mean I’m not even happier if people happen to like what I do!

I spend at least as much time thinking about photography as I do actually taking photographs, hence my not always coherent ramblings on the subject. In my defence I must say that I think alot of photographers spend way too much time worrying about the how and with what they photograph and not enough on why.

I hope you will some insights here of interest and join in the discussion if you disagree or agree with the views expressed.

    Ian:

Thanks for your commentaries on LZ. I’m sold from my limited use of the trial version. I’m just debating on whether as someone who shoots an average of 50-60 photos a month (included in the average is some big vacation shoots a couple of times a year), there is a big advantage in purchasing the Lightzone Basic and using it with Aperture (which I own and have barely begun to learn), or using LZ as a stand alone, with perhaps a couple of other programs (like Noiseware and perhaps a printing program like Size Fixer). You clearly use both.

Will I get more effective printing using Aperture? I know the data management plus of Aperture but have mixed feelings about it (maybe because I’m still learning how to use it!) How seamlessly do you integrate LZ and Aperture in your workflow?

My debate is whether to spend the extra $ on the 2.0 full version and try it as a standalone or decide to go with the combo of the two programs.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hallo Ian!

I recently found an article about LightZone. I tried it and from that moment I love it. On the LZ forum there was a post of you from a few weeks ago, where you offer a zip file containing some templates. I would like to try this but I can’t download it. Unfortunately the link is broken. Could you send to me it via email? Thank you!

    Jan,
It was very pleasant to read the article you wrote about me. So, my time at college is not forgotten to everyone. I remember this time with pleasure.
You seem to be very busy, or?
I have been against stream for quite a few years now. I am for the time being working with all the stuff I shot in Australia this winter. It will be a huge thing, and strangely enough, shot on a compact camera. The extreme opposite.. I am doing monumental compositions, very abstract, but very thrilling! In fact, I am as excited as I was while at college.
    Good to hear from you,
    V.Best,
    Francois
